Autumn again.

Happy October! Revisiting this space after so many years, and I feel excited by having the time to once again dive in and make it my own.

In lieu of trying to recap the past years, let's just pick up with a glimpse of things I'm loving right now.

I'm loving long morning walks in the cool air followed by breakfast and tea on the porch as the sun streams through the trees. Sometimes our wild backyard feels like paradise.

I'm loving this workspace in the morning, as the rest of the house is dark and quiet, the dog naps and I work through the hours alone. The quiet, which I was scared to reconnect with at first, has quickly become my favorite part of this arrangement.

I'm loving that working from home has finally provided me with an excuse to always always always have fresh flowers in the house. When I was a little girl, I imagined that one of the best things about being a grown-up was always having flowers in the house. Now that I've managed that, it is every bit as magical as I imagined. Amazing how the smallest changes can make a difference.

I'm loving adventures in town, such as to Charlestowne Landing...

...and Angel Oak. After years of working so hard that I barely remembered I lived in Charleston, its beauty gets to slap me in the face all over again.

*Three times this week, I have been asked what I want to do when I graduate in December.

I suppose it's time to begin figuring that out.

May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't forget to make some art -- write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.

Cloudy and cold Wednesdays can be special, too.

Happy Wednesday to ME.

I feel like I'm missing fall. A trade-off of living in the beautiful lowcountry is the lack of seasons. Not a lot of crunchy leaves, red trees, and wooded paths to explore down here. I'm living vicariously through everyone else's beautiful autumn adventures.

Thursday, October 7, 2010

If I can make it through the papers, the readings, the midterms and the general sludging through that is today...

it will be FALL BREAK! Which means a fancy night of music, a carefree morning at the crepe stand, and a visit home to play with my dog, pick up some photography tips from my precious father, and drink wine with my mother.

In other words, complete bliss.

Why do they say "fall in love"? Why isn't it "rise in love"?

I absolutely, completely adore this film. And I have a hunch that if you watch it, you will too.

Dear Rain,

As far as I'm concerned, you can stay however long you'd like. You make me think about real and beautiful things. And you're lovely to listen to.

Love,

Some Sunday night dinners call for 2 growlers from the Charleston Beer Exchange. It's just the way it is.

We were feeling pretty damn adventurous and tried the Pumking Ale from Southern Tier Brewing Co. It felt and tasted like the official beginning of autumn. Spicy and sweet and potent enough to warm you up while the rain poured outside... If cooler weather means delicious drinks like this, I'm ALL. IN.
